Kal Sakur: Vestige Of Light

About

An Epic Fantasy fueled with supernatural medieval combat, planar warfare, myth, magic and betrayal

Allvien; Once ruled by a people of prolific power, now lays shattered by the artful seduction
of a timeless outsider. Let it not be said that they were treated unfairly, for they stand upon
the fiery coals of their own creation.

A last hope is given. An Endala, traveler of worlds, arrives in the city of Sevaria. Built upon the ruined capital of the Giant Kingdom of RaTuk, the inhabitants believe themselves safe behind its monolithic walls. The city is alive this night, in celebration of the Quincentennial Blue Eclipse. Merriment and jubilation fill the streets, masking the undercurrent of malevolence that lurks behind the kindest of faces.

In a race against time the Endala must find the reason for his arrival and navigate this unknown world while gathering worthy allies. All whilst eluding the ever-vigilant notice of the Watchers. For if Balus learns of his intervention, the emissaries of the Lords Of Darkness will surely follow in his wake.

A fast-paced action-packed adventure that will keep you dying to read just one more page

Summary

Vestige of Light starts by tossing you right into the deep end along with Kalen, who suddenly arrives in a completely unfamiliar world. He shows up during a festival in the city of Sevaria — something that sounds fun and harmless at first, but it quickly becomes clear there’s a lot more going on under the surface. As Kalen tries to figure out where he is and why he’s there, he’s pulled into a web of ancient magic, long-buried history, and political tension that everyone around him seems to know more about than he does.

There’s a ton of world-building, and the author definitely doesn’t shy away from using unique terms and concepts right away. Things like “folding” and other world-specific mechanics can be a little confusing at first, and it takes a bit to get comfortable with the characters, their backgrounds, and how this world actually works. But as the story moves along, everything slowly starts falling into place, and the bigger picture becomes clearer and more intriguing. My favorite character is Flicker, can't wait to see what happens to her in the next book. (or for that matter I would love to read Flicker's story up to this time, so a prequel)

Recommendation

This book is a great fit if you enjoy epic fantasy that really builds its own world from the ground up — magic, history, mythology, the whole deal. The pacing picks up the further you go, and once you get used to the terminology and the cast, it’s easy to get pulled into the story. The characters grow on you, the mysteries get more interesting, and the action keeps escalating.

And just a heads-up: the book ends on a pretty major cliffhanger. It’s one of those endings where you turn the last page and immediately wish you had the next book waiting. Despite the initial learning curve with the world and vocabulary, it leaves you excited to see where everything goes next. I’m definitely looking forward to the next installment.

BTW: I’d honestly recommend reading the glossary first — I didn’t, and I definitely struggled with some of the world-specific terms early on. Going in with a bit of background makes the opening chapters a lot smoother and helps the story click into place much faster.
